Stitches of Resilience: Origami Bag Sewing Project

    Woodside Library, Woodside
    8yr–18yr

Join Katie Furukawa Bonifacio of Old River Design Co. for a hands-on workshop that explores the intersection of heritage and craft. Inspired by the themes of George Takei's They Called Us Enemy , we will use Japanese fabrics and origami-inspired folding techniques to sew a unique carry-all shoulder bag. As we work, Katie will share reflections on her own family's incarceration experience, turning the act of sewing into a space for storytelling, remembrance, and honoring sacrifices. NOTE: Participants must know the basics of machine sewing (zig-zag stitch, forward, reverse), but no additional skills are required.
